Impeachment: Edwin Clark Writes IGP, Demands Intervention In Rivers State Crisis

A group of lawyers from the Niger Delta, Niger Delta Lawyers For Equity (NDLE), have asked the Federal Government to apologise to Pa Edwin Clark, the South-South leader, for the raiding of his home by soldiers looking for arms, News About Nigeria reports.

The group made this demand in a statement signed by its coordinator, Chief Akpokona Omafuaire, and secretary, Barr Amos David, on Tuesday in Warri, stating that it was disrespectful and internationally humiliating.

The group stated that it is giving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Chief of Army Staff one week to make an apology to Clark for what they described as a senseless raiding of his home.

They all noted that failure to make the apology will bring about consequences, stating that the group will institute legal action.

“We at Niger Delta Lawyers for Equity read with dismay and utter disbelief the raiding of the home of our South-South Leader in a commando style. We want to believe it is not real.

“We want the President and Chief of Defence Staff to tender unreserved apologies within one week, failure of which we shall institute legal action for this great disrespect and international humiliation,” they stated.

They condemned the ill-fated incident near the Okuama community and sympathised with the families of the slain officers, but maintained that the military operations had gone too far and were out of control.

According to the group, Pa Clark is the face of the South-South and Niger Delta region and has paid his due in the conflagration called Nigeria, adding that the raiding of his country home is not only an affront to him but to the whole Niger Delta region and its people.
