Bishop Laments Religious, Ethnic Bias In Universities

The Bishop of the Sokoto Catholic Diocese, Matthew Kukah, on Tuesday, tasked the Federal Government with interrogating individuals with claims of having close ties with bandits.

The clergyman also slammed the federal government over its inability to investigate individuals who have been parading themselves and claiming to have a relationship with terrorists.

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television today, Kukah alleged that “it is clear that the Federal Government at the highest level knows what is going on, at least the intelligence community has an idea.

“There are key Nigerians who are saying openly that they know more than they think the rest of us know, and I think that it is the business of the Federal Government to find out those who claim to know where the bandits are, those who are collaborating with the bandits,” he added.

The bishop also lamented the fact that kidnappings are gradually becoming the order of the day.

He further noted that the worst of all is the fact that it is increasing across schools and schoolchildren and could have a psychological effect on the children.

Kukah said this following the Federal Government’s claim that it has invited Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Ahmad Gumi, for questioning over his comments on the activities of bandits in the country.

News About Nigeria had reported that before the release of the 137 abducted schoolchildren, Gumi had told the federal government that the use of force was not the best way to approach the bandits.

The Islamic cleric had also asked the federal government to permit him to negotiate with the abductors of the schoolchildren.
