Catherine, Princess of Wales, revealed on Friday that she is battling cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy in the early stages of her treatment, News About Nigeria reports.
The news of her diagnosis comes following a successful abdominal surgery she underwent in January.
“In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London, and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous,” she said in a video statement, filmed on Wednesday at Windsor, west of London, where they live.
The princess, affectionately known as Kate, stated that the discovery of cancer came as a shock but assured the public that she is “well and getting stronger every day.”
The disclosure comes after earlier announcements from royal officials that King Charles III was undergoing treatment for cancer, leading to the cancellation of his public engagements.
In response to Kate’s announcement, King Charles said he was proud of her courage.
Kate, who is 42 years old and married to Prince William, did not disclose the exact type of cancer she is battling.
However, she said it was difficult for her, William, and their three young children in the wake of her diagnosis.
The princess shared that while her initial surgery was successful, subsequent tests revealed the presence of cancer, and her doctor recommended preventative chemotherapy.
Preventative chemotherapy, according to experts, is administered after surgery to prevent cancer recurrence by targeting any remaining cancer cells.
Her Kensington Palace office also said that she will resume official duties once cleared by her medical team.
The princess was last seen at a public engagement on December 25 and subsequently underwent abdominal surgery in January.
