FCT APC Leaders Protest Wike’s Appointments

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have condemned recent appointments made by the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, alleging favouritism towards his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyalists at the expense of APC members, News About Nigeria reports.

Expressing their grievances at a media parley held at the Nigerian Union of Journalists secretariat in Abuja on Monday, FCT party chieftains called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and caution the former Rivers State governor before his actions undermine the APC’s political structure in the nation’s capital.

Wike has faced criticism for his appointments since assuming office, particularly for appointing people with strong ties to the PDP.

Some of the appointments include Chidi Amadi as Chief of Staff, Felix Obuah as Coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, Michael Chinda as Senior Special Adviser on Land, Urban, and Regional Planning, and Barivure Fred as a senior aide on Environment and Waste Management, among others.

Abdulwahab Ekekhide, an APC chieftain in the FCT, condemned Wike’s appointments as biased and disregarding FCT APC members who contributed to the president’s electoral victory.

Ekekhide stated, “We want to let President Bola Tinubu know that Nyesom Wike is killing the political structure of the APC in FCT due to his lack of regard for the party and its leadership.

“Since assumption of office, he has refused to sit with the leadership of the party, even though the party has written him a series of letters to grant the party audience, all to no avail. We say this is unacceptable.”

Isaac David, the APC Youth Leader in the FCT, warned of potential consequences if Wike continued to overlook the rights of party members.

David noted that Wike’s appointments favoured PDP loyalists, neglecting FCT APC members who played crucial roles in securing the president’s victory.

David said, “The minister’s PVC wasn’t registered in the FCT here. The same goes for the PDP loyalists and supporters he is bringing into Abuja for appointments. If they are ignoring us, the indigenes, and the FCT APC members, we will see who will vote him back in 2027. We will withdraw our support from Mr. President. Let us see if he plans to win the FCT in 2027.”
