The Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, is set to be crowned as the next Olubadan of Ibadanland, pending the approval of the state governor, Seyi Makinde, following the passing of the 42nd Olubadan, Oba Lekan Balogun, on Thursday.
According to reports, Oba Olakulehin, who heads the Balogun line, is next in line to succeed the late monarch.
Born on October 18, 1942, News About Nigeria reported that Oba Balogun reigned for two years before his demise.
Confirming the death of Oba Balogun, Governor Makinde, in a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, announced that the monarch passed away at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
The late Olubadan will be laid to rest according to Islamic rites on Friday at 4 pm.
The announcement of the burial arrangements was made by the late monarch’s younger brother, Kola Balogun, who holds the title of Baba-Kekere Olubadan.
The statement was made available to journalists by the deceased’s personal assistant (Media), Oladele Ogunsola.
According to Ogunsola, the burial ceremony will commence at 4 pm today, with the remains of Oba Balogun laid to rest at his ancestral home.
Just 72 hours before his passing, the monarch celebrated his second anniversary.
Oba Olakulehin, a former member of the House of Representatives during the Third Republic, hails from Ita Baale in Ibadan North East Local Government.
It is expected that palace drummers will move from Alli-Iwo to the Ita Baale Palace of Oba Olakulehin, symbolically heralding his ascension to the throne as the next Olubadan of Ibadanland.
