Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has said that the state government will support Wigwe University, following the tragic death of the late Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings Plc, Herbert Wigwe.
Fubara made this announcement on Saturday after the funeral service held in Isiokpo, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
News About Nigeria reported that Herbert Wigwe, his wife, Doreen, and son, Chizzy, lost their lives in a helicopter crash near the Nevada border in California, United States of America.
The governor, addressing mourners, said that the government is committed to collaborating with the Wigwe Foundation to immortalise the late CEO through Wigwe University.
Fubara assured that every effort would be made to ensure the university continues to thrive in line with Wigwe’s vision.
Governor Fubara questioned the pursuit of worldly desires, particularly in the political realm.
He urged people to focus on making a positive impact on the lives of others rather than engaging in power struggles.
The governor said that life is unpredictable, citing Wigwe’s financial success and influence but noting that these could not control the inevitable.
“This is a man who was not a politician, he made his money through our investments, he had the world in his palm financially, he controlled even the political classes; but today, with all the power financially couldn’t control life. Is it not enough to ask ourselves why are we struggling? Why are we not making an impact on the lives of our people?” he queried.
Dignitaries present at the funeral service included Kayode Fayemi, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, Bukola Saraki, Aliko Dangote, Sanusi Lamido, Alex Otti, Dapo Abiodun, and Babajide Sawno-Olu, among others.
The ceremony brought together notable figures from various sectors to pay their respects to the late business mogul.
