The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has declared that no sacrifice is too big for him to pay for the success and peace of Rivers State, News about Nigeria reports.
In an interview with AIT on Thursday, Governor Fubara said that his genuine love and interest lie in the well-being of the state, adding that he could even forfeit his position if it would contribute to bringing more peace.
During the interview, Fubara said that his primary concern was the well-being of the millions of Rivers people who had made sacrifices for the state, and he expressed worries about their hopes being dashed.
He mentioned that if leaving his position would enhance peace in the state, he was willing to do so, adding that his commitment was not about personal gain but about the prosperity and continuity of Rivers State.
Fubara, acknowledging the challenges and crises that could have arisen during his tenure, stressed the importance of restraint and maturity in leadership.
He said, “I am the governor, no matter what it is, there are things I could have done and there would have been a total crisis. But your ability to restrain in the face of crisis even when you have the power to do things is maturity.”
The governor has been engaged in a longstanding battle with the camp of his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Despite the political challenges, Fubara declared himself the winner of the crisis earlier in January.
He vowed not to fold his arms but to address any attempts to sabotage his government.
