Africa’s richest man and founder of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, announced on Monday the naming of the road leading to the Dangote Refinery after the late Access Bank Chief Executive Officer, Herbert Wigwe.

Dangote, who said the road would be called Herbert Wigwe Road, announced it on Monday night at the Night of Tribute for the late banker.

While making the announcement, Dangote described Wigwe as a loyal friend and a pillar of support for him and his family.

He also noted that Wigwe was a visionary role model with an act of courage second to none, which is why he is paying him the final respect of immortalising his name.

He said, “To immortalise my beloved friend, my brother, and my mentee, I have actually decided to name of a major refinery and petrochemical road; out of the 120 kilometres, the biggest road will now be named ‘Herbert Wigwe.’

“I am proud to name him my devoted friend, mentee, and supporter. I will forever cherish the warmth of his friendship. People will see this road leading to the refinery and will find out who this Herbert Wigwe.”

Dangote also added that, before his death, Wigwe was a man loved by all and a man who lived a life worthy of emulation.

News About Nigeria recalls that Wigwe died in a helicopter crash in the United States, alongside his wife, Doreen Wigwe, his son, Chizi Wigwe, and Abimbola Ogunbanjo, the former group chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc.

The 57-year-old banker became the CEO of Access Bank Plc after succeeding his business partner, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede.
