The British Council in Nigeria has implemented a second increase in the fee for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) examinations, according to an update on its website.
News About Nigeria reports that this marks the second fee hike within a short period, following last month’s 29% increase from the previous fee of N107,500.
As of March 1, 2024, the revised fees are as follows:
IELTS on Computer (Academic and General Training Modules) is pegged at N266,000, while IELTS on Paper (Academic and General Training Modules) is set at N256,500
UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) will cost N285,500, while the price for Life Skills is N249,000.
In the update posted on its website, the British Council mentioned that the fee adjustments are a response to evolving market dynamics and increased costs in the delivery of the exams.
The organisation said that these fees would be subject to review based on prevailing market conditions.
“The above fees will be subject to review based on the prevailing market dynamics. The change in fees is due to evolving market dynamics and increased costs in the delivery of our exams,” the council said.
Last month’s initial increase had set the IELTS on Computer academic and general training modules at N139,000, the IELTS on Paper academic and general training modules at N134,000, UKVI at N149,000, Life Skills at N130,000, and one skill retake (O.S.R.) at N87,570.
In September 2023, the British Council raised the IELTS examination fees from approximately N90,000 to N107,500.
During that adjustment, the council cited the need for new prices to sustain high-quality standards for the testing experience.
