Three people have reportedly lost their lives in a car accident involving two vehicles along the Ikirun-Osogbo express road, News About Nigeria reports.
The spokesperson of the Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Osun State, Kehinde Adeleke, confirmed the incident, stating that the fatal accident, which happened on Tuesday afternoon, involved a Lexus 350 car registered with Lagos number, SMK 17 JK, and an unregistered truck.
She noted that the driver of the truck allegedly took to his heel after the incident.
However, sources at the scene of the incident recounted the unfortunate incident.
According to one of the sources who pleaded anonymity, the Lexus car was heading to Osogbo at high speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit the truck, whose driver was also accused of driving recklessly.
Another eyewitness, identified as Kola Adeola, disclosed that the impact of the accident was so strong that the three occupants of the car died on the spot.
The NSCDC spokesperson, however, stated that the bodies of the deceased have been taken away from the scene by the Osun State Emergency Ambulance Service to the Uniosun Teaching Hospital morgue in Osogbo.
She also cautioned drivers against engaging in reckless driving, stating that the rules of traffic were not just there for fancy but there to act as a guide and prevent these kinds of unfortunate and avoidable accidents.
According to her, life is precious and should not be treated with temerity. She also added that drivers should avoid driving above the speed limit even if they are in a hurry to get somewhere, as it was better to arrive late than to be late.
