AKA: Six Suspects Apprehended

South African police have made a breakthrough in the murder case involving popular rapper Kiernan Forbes, widely known as AKA, and his close friend, celebrity chef and entrepreneur Tebello “Tibz” Motshoane.

News About Nigeria learnt that six suspects linked to the high-profile murder have been apprehended.

The duo was fatally shot on February 10, 2023, while walking with a friend outside a popular Durban restaurant, just hours before AKA was scheduled to perform at a nearby club.

According to the police, investigations revealed that AKA was specifically targeted and that Tibz was not the intended victim.

The suspects are believed to have been paid for their involvement in the crime. The motive behind the attack is yet to be disclosed, but law enforcement authorities are diligently pursuing the case.

The suspects are set to appear in court on Thursday, where more details about the investigation and charges against them are expected to be revealed.

KwaZulu-Natal provincial police commissioner, Lt Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, revealed that the perpetrators closely monitored AKA from the airport.

“It was clear that AKA was monitored from the airport and Tibz was not the intended target in the murder on Florida Road in Durban. We know they were paid for this,” Lt Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, said Tuesday night.

Commenting on the arrest, South Africa’s Police Minister, Bheki Cele, said, “I hope South Africans will sleep better after this.”

The murders of AKA and Tibz, captured on Closed-Circuit Television cameras, shocked the nation and the entertainment industry.

South Africa has witnessed several high-profile murders of entertainment stars over the years.

In 2007, reggae singer Lucky Dube was fatally shot during a carjacking attempt while dropping off his teenage son.
