In preparation for the September 21, 2024, governorship election in Edo State, the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday approved the delegate list for the governorship primary election to nominate a candidate for the election, News About Nigeria reports.
The approval of the delegate list was announced in a statement released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, in Abuja on Monday.
According to Ologunagba, the conduct of the party’s primary election is very crucial, so they would be able to come together and properly support the candidate that emerges as the winner on Thursday in the forthcoming gubernatorial poll.
The PDP National Publicity Secretary further revealed that the NWC of the party also approved that the primary election be conducted at the Lawn Tennis Court of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, in Benin City.
The statement partly reads, “The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has approved the delegate list for the Edo State Governorship Election Primary to nominate a candidate for the September 21, 2024 governorship election in the state.
“The NWC has also approved the conduct of the Edo State Governorship Election Primary for Thursday, February 22, 2024, at the Lawn Tennis Court of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.”
While calling on all delegates, aspirants, leaders, critical stakeholders, members of the PDP, and the public to note the official date and venue and be guided accordingly, Ologunagba noted that they are looking forward to a free and credible election that would produce the best candidate.
He further charged aspirants and delegates to abide by the party’s rules and regulations during the election, as those found wanting would be penalised according to the PDP guidelines
