A suspect identified as James Emmanuel, who was arrested by operatives of the Ondo State Police Command for rape, has stated that he committed the crime while under the influence of alcohol, News About Nigeria reports.
The 39-year-old labourer was arrested for raping his co-labourer, identified simply as Deborah, to death in Akure, Ondo State.
He, however, stated that the idea to tape Deborah had come to him after he had consumed four bottles of beer and six sticks of cigarettes.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, Funmi Odunlami, noted in a statement that the deceased was raped to death on her farm.
She disclosed that the incident had been reported by the owner of the farm at Okuta-Elerinla Police Station on January 18, 2024, as a murder case.
According to her, the owner of the farm stated that she had gone to her farm to feed her goats and fowl on January 17 and discovered that her worker, Mrs. Deborah, was not in her apartment.
She stated that she had asked Mr. James Emmanuel, who is also a worker at the farm, about the deceased, but he claimed to know nothing about her whereabouts.
The corpse was later found in a waste pit.
However, investigations by the police led to the arrest of James Emmanuel, who confessed to having raped the deceased after taking four bottles of beer and six sticks of cigarettes.
He added that he killed the woman out of fear that she might expose him and dumped her corpse inside a waste pit on the farm premises.
