The speaker of Kano State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Jibrin Ismail Falgore, has urged residents of the state to cut down on their living expenses to reduce the effect of the economic downturn in the country, News About Nigeria reports.
He disclosed this in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, noting that the economic challenges faced by Nigerians are getting worse daily.
Falgore lamented that the economic situation in the country has affected patronage as businesses are currently going down, adding that this is affecting every facet of life.
“Nigerians are seriously facing hardship as government policies lead to a high cost of living, especially commodities,” he said.
He therefore urged farmers in the state to intensify their efforts in their farming activities, maintaining that religious leaders, institutions, companies, and government at all levels need to be more proactive towards the adjustments to cut down on the cost of living.
He further appealed to the federal government to devise means to address the current economic situation, which has led to an increase in high commodity prices and inflation in the country.
Falgore also appealed to the federal government to come up with a strategic economic plan that would ease the suffering of the people.
This is, however, coming barely days after the state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, offered to personally meet with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intimate him about economic hardship and hunger in the state and implore him to come up with a solution sooner rather than later.
