FG Committed To Fighting Cancer - DG NICRAT

The Director General of the National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment (NICRAT), Prof. Usman Malami Aliyu, has stated that the Federal Government is committed to the fight against cancer in the country, News About Nigeria reports.

He made this known while speaking at a press conference on Sunday in Abuja to mark this year’s World Cancer Day.

Aliyu noted that the goal of the Federal Government is to improve cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, as well as to enhance the quality of life for cancer patients and survivors.

He stated that in a bid to achieve this and drive progress in cancer care, the federal government plans to provide substantial funding for cancer research in Nigeria, adding that this will foster innovation in the fight against cancer.

“The improvement in the cancer health fund and the introduction of the childhood cancer counterpart fund have been pivotal steps in our pursuit of equitable and sustainable financing for cancer care and treatment,” he said.

He further noted that this initiative by the government will provide the necessary resources that will enhance patient care and support across the country, thereby fulfilling a critical need.

The NICRAT DG also reiterated the commitment of the Institute to advancing the fight against cancer through research, education, and advocacy, stating that its goal is to improve cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, as well as to enhance the quality of life for cancer patients and survivors.

He, therefore, urged Nigerians to join the Institute in raising awareness about cancer and its impact on individuals, families, and societies.
