How Fake Customs CG Was Arrested For Impersonation, Recruitment Scam

The Nigeria Customs Service has arrested a 50-year-old man identified as Abdul-Rahman Ibrahim for impersonating the Comptroller-General of the Customs and also defrauding individuals seeking to be recruited into the service, News About Nigeria reports.

According to the Customs Service, in a statement shared on its official X account on Wednesday, the man also impersonated other high-ranking government officials in the nation.

In the statement, which was signed by the Spokesperson of the NCS, CSC Abdullahi Maiwada, the service revealed that they were able to arrest Ibrahim through intelligence gathered by the Customs Police Unit.

“The suspect, Abdul-Rahman Ibrahim, was apprehended for his involvement in impersonating the Comptroller-General of Customs, Chief of Staff to the President, and the Secretary of the Ministry of Interior,” the statement partly reads.

The statement also revealed that when Ibrahim was nabbed, the NCS found some counterfeit documents on him, which included fake Customs and NSCDC appointment letters, forged introduction letters purportedly signed by high-ranking government officials, and many others.

The NCS further revealed that by claiming to be who he is not, Ibrahim has successfully defrauded unsuspecting Nigerians under the guise of helping them secure employment with the service.

The suspect, according to the statement, usually issued letters of appointment to his victims, whom he defrauded to the tune of N1 million each.

The spokesperson of the NCS also revealed that, upon his arrest, Ibrahim admitted to the crimes, adding that he was not alone but worked with other people, leading to the NCS carrying out further investigation to nab his accomplices and also prosecute them.

The NCS therefore noted that Ibrahim’s arrest shows that they are committed to ensuring that they put an end to the existence of fake and criminal elements who are tarnishing the service’s image and also defrauding unsuspecting citizens.
