The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of Mr. Beneth Igwe as the new Commissioner of Police in charge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, News About Nigeria reports.

This announcement follows the promotion of 14 Deputy Commissioners of Police to the substantive ranks of Commissioners of Police.

In a statement released by the PSC spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, on Wednesday, the approval covers the appointments and postings of ten Commissioners of Police to various state commands across the country.

Prior to his recent appointment, Mr. Beneth Igwe served as the Commander of the FCT Special Intervention Squad, a position he was appointed to on January 17 by the Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun.

The newly appointed Commissioners of Police for other state commands are as follows:

  • Peter Opara, former Deputy Commissioner, Administration in Imo State, posted to Osun State.
  • Olughemiga Adesina, posted to Benue State.
  • Akinwale Adeniran, assigned to Ekiti State Command.
  • Mohammed Abba, appointed to Adamawa State Command.
  • Abaniwonda Olufemi, former CP Force Secretary’s office, posted to Delta State Command.
  • Ademola Ayilara, former DCP State CID Lagos Command, now heads the Akwa Ibom State Command.
  • David Iloyanomon, former DCP Administration Anambra State Command, posted to head Taraba State Command.
  • Abayomi Peter, taking over Ondo State Command.
  • Hassan Yabnet, now CP Plateau State Command.

Addressing the newly appointed Commissioners, Dr. Solomon Arase, the PSC Chairman, that the commission would not accept any excuses for failure to provide effective and efficient leadership.

He added that the security of lives and properties in their respective areas of jurisdiction should not be taken for granted.

The chairman assured them of the commission’s continuous encouragement but stressed the importance of maintaining a high standard in their roles.
