How Ogun Banker Faked His Abduction Over 1.7m Debt

On Tuesday, the spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed that the banker, who is a staff member of Kemta Oloko Microfinance Bank, Olumide Openaike, faked his abduction because of a debt of N1.7 million.

News About Nigeria reported that the bank staff was reported missing by his wife, Temitope, on January 17, 2024.

He was however reported to be found last week Thursday in Niger state and later returned home (to Ogun state) after his family sent transport fare to him because he had claimed that his abductors took everything that was on him.

According to his wife, he had called them with another phone number with claims that his abductors took his phone and left him stranded without any means of returning home which was why transport fare was sent to him.

However, contrary to his claim, the police revealed that the banker was never kidnapped but faked his abduction because of the money he stole from the Microfinance bank where he was working.

According to the Ogun State Police spokesperson, the banker was diverting the money paid by a customer of the bank where he works to his account.

“What happened was that a customer was remitting the money to the bank but Openaike was diverting it to personal use. He said he then got depressed and decided to fake his abduction,” the police spokesperson added.

Odutola also revealed that Openaike is currently in police custody for faking his abduction and also stealing from his employer.
