Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has urged Nigerians to be obedient to rules and regulations, News About Nigeria reports.
The governor gave this charge while speaking at the close of the 10th Annual Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Lecture, with the theme, “Creating pathways for peace: Tackling banditry and insurgency through good governance for sustainable development,” in Maiduguri on Sunday.
According to him, lack of obedience to the rules and regulations of the country is one of the major problems in Nigeria, adding that until the rules and regulations of the constituted authorities in the country are followed, the nation will not be able to get it right.
He further noted that during the time of Ahmad Bello, who was the Sardauna of Sokoto, there was adherence to the rules and regulations of the country.
The governor said that the lack of commitment to good governance by leaders and followers is another form of corruption afflicting Nigeria, maintaining that the country could not thrive if corruption was not dealt with.
He stated that by abiding by the rules and regulations of doing things, both the leaders and followers will be able to collectively own the fight against corruption.
He, therefore, urged Nigerians to renew their commitment to ensuring that good governance and peace prevail in all styles of federation.
Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto, was born on June 12, 1910, and served as the first and only premier of the defunct Northern Nigeria region from 1954 until his assassination in Nigeria’s first military coup d’etat on January 15, 1966.
