The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has congratulated the Super Eagles of Nigeria for their victory over the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, securing a spot in the quarterfinals of the ongoing CAF African Cup of Nations (AFCON), News About Nigeria reports.
In a statement released on Sunday in Abuja by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio commended the team’s resilience and urged them to continue their pursuit of the tournament trophy.
The Senate President said he was proud of the Super Eagles’ performance, stating that their triumph over Cameroon showcased their capabilities to overcome any team in Africa.
Akpabio acknowledged the team’s resourcefulness and industry, spanning from the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium (Nest of Champions) in Uyo to the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.
“I felt proud watching the Super Eagles demobilise the Lions. Apart from dominating the Indomitable Lions, the Super Eagles tamed the Lions and made them look ordinary. That is the Nigerian spirit. I congratulate you for making millions of Nigerians proud,” Akpabio stated.
The Senate President acknowledged the strength of the upcoming opponents but expressed confidence in Nigeria’s ability to emerge victorious in the quarterfinals, where the Super Eagles will face the Palancas Negras of Angola.
Akpabio said, “Your opponents in the quarterfinals are also a strong side. But I strongly believe that with determination, right tactics and team work, you will subdue them.
“While I congratulate you for advancing to this stage of the competition, I urge you not to be complacent but continue to be focused and resilient. We are behind you, and all Nigerians are supporting you. Do not look back but go on and bring home the trophy,” Akpabio encouraged the Super Eagles.
