A police divisional officer in Kaduna reportedly rejected a one million naira bribe offered by a suspected bandit after his arrest in a hotel, News About Nigeria reports.

The arrest took place in the Tafa community on January 19, 2024, and details of the incident were disclosed by the Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, on Thursday.

According to ASP Mansir Hassan, the police received credible information about the presence of a suspected person at Easyway Hotel in Tafa town.

Acting on this information, operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer raided the hotel and arrested a 28-year-old suspect named Bello Muhammad from Zamfara State.

During the arrest, the police recovered the sum of N2,350,000 from the suspect, believed to be proceeds from kidnapping.

The investigation revealed that Bello Muhammad confessed to being a kidnapper operating in the Kagarko forest in Kaduna.

Pictures retrieved from his mobile phone supported his confession, showing him holding an AK47 rifle in a forest.

As the investigation progressed, the suspect allegedly attempted to bribe the Divisional Police Officer with one million naira to stop further inquiries.

However, the police official rejected the bribe.

The PPRO added that the investigation is ongoing, and the suspect is said to be cooperating with the police by providing vital information.

The Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State, CP A.D. Ali, commended the operatives of the Tafa Division for their efforts.

He urged law enforcement officers to maintain their vigilance and intensify efforts to reduce crime in the state.

The CP also called on businesses, especially hoteliers and leisure service operators, to scrutinise the identities of their customers to prevent criminals from finding refuge in their establishments.
