Imo Police Boost Security In Okigwe After Deadly Attack

Armed policemen on Tuesday deployed tear gas against the 16 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Plateau State House of Assembly who were recently ousted by the Court of Appeal, News About Nigeria reports.

The lawmakers, accompanied by supporters, had gathered at the Rayfield Old Government House in Jos, intending to resume plenary when the incident unfolded.

Security personnel, including policemen, took control of the Government House premises, preventing the sacked lawmakers from entering the chambers of the House of Assembly.

Despite this, the lawmakers stood their ground, vowing not to vacate the premises.

Simultaneously, News About Nigeria reported that Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, responding to the escalating security challenges, has declared a 24-hour curfew in the Mangu Local Government Area of the state.

This decision was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere.

Governor Mutfwang arrived at the curfew decision after consultations with relevant security agencies.

During this period, only people on essential duties are permitted to move within the local government area until further notice.

The governor urged all citizens, especially residents of Mangu Local Government Area, to adhere to the directive and collaborate with security personnel by providing credible information to restore peace and order in the area.

In the statement, Governor Mutfwang expressed concern that despite the government’s efforts to combat the activities of terrorist elements, certain people remain determined to create an atmosphere of insecurity in the state.

He extended sympathy to the families of victims and the injured, assuring them that the government would persist in its commitment to ensuring lasting peace in the state.

Governor Mutfwang also pledged that the curfew would be subject to review as soon as the security situation in the area improves.
