MTN, Glo To Resolve Outstanding Issues - NCC

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has disclosed that MTN and Glo will be resolving their outstanding issues, and as a result, the plans to ban Glo network users from calling MTN lines have been suspended for 21 days

News About Nigeria gathered that the communications commission made this known in a statement, signed by its Director, Public Affairs, Reuben Mouka, on Thursday.

Recall that the Commission issued a notice on January 8, 2024, stating that it had approved the plan of MTN Nigerian Communications Plc to commence the phased disconnection of Globacom Limited with effect from January 18, 2024, due to a long-standing interconnection debt dispute between the parties.

However, in a follow-up notice issued on Thursday, the Commission announced that it will be extending the time of reconciliation for both parties.

NCC stated that both MTN and Glo have reached an agreement to resolve all outstanding issues between them, adding that because of this reason, and in the exercise of its regulatory powers in that regard, it has put the phased disconnection on hold for 21 days from today, January 17, 2024.

The Commission also maintained that both parties must resolve all outstanding issues within the 21 days, adding that interconnect debts must be settled by all operating companies as a necessary component towards compliance with the regulatory obligations of all licensees.

The interconnect charge is the price telecom operators pay one another for calls terminating on their networks.

It was also disclosed that both parties have been at loggerheads over this fee for a period of time.
