Members of the Middle-Belt Youth Forum are set to go on a public demonstration to protest the rising cases of kidnapping in the region, News About Nigeria reports.
This was disclosed by the president of the forum, Brent Kane.
He stated that the protest would be held today, where the people would go on a peaceful march to the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) to demand the declaration of the kidnappers and bandits as terrorists and an end to the killings and abductions across the country.
Kane noted that the kidnappings have gone on for too long and have put countless families in despair and sorrow as the rate of kidnapping in the region has continued to increase and several victims killed.
He maintained that the peace walk, which has been organised by Africa’s Morning Centre for Public Policy and Good Governance and the Middle Belt Youth Forum, is aimed at compelling the Federal Government through the Attorney-General of the Federation to invoke sections 3, 48, and 49 of Nigeria’s Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act of 2022 to declare these wanton killings and destructions an act of terrorism.
He maintained that it was wrong on all levels for the groups responsible for kidnapping citizens, wiping out communities, razing down homesteads and farmlands, and taking over communities to go unpunished, profiting from their destructive activities, while the indigenous landowners languish in IDP camps.
He further noted that the activities of the bandits were in clear breach of Nigeria’s anti-terrorism laws, adding that this was obvious in the manner of their attacks.
