Following the abduction of Nabeeha and her five sisters in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, the Nigeria Police Force has announced intensified plans to rescue the victims and prevent further kidnapping cases across the country, News About Nigeria reports.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, conveyed this information in a statement on Saturday.
This comes after the killing of one of the abducted girls, Nabeeha, by gunmen who kidnapped her and her five sisters in Abuja.
Nabeeha and her sisters were abducted on January 9, along with their father.
Subsequently, the gunmen released their father, instructing him to procure a N60 million ransom for the release of his daughters before January 12.
Unfortunately, the kidnappers allegedly killed Nabeeha and dumped her body somewhere, compelling her parents to bury her due to their inability to raise the ransom.
Adejobi assured the public that the police force, under the leadership of IG Kayode Egbetokun, has initiated a comprehensive plan of action to address the situation and prevent further occurrences.
He emphasised the need for discretion to avoid compromising ongoing operations.
He said that the Force Headquarters is actively coordinating efforts to rescue the victims, and specific details are being kept confidential.
Adejobi urged the public to provide useful information to enhance the effectiveness of the rescue operations.
Egbetokun, the police boss, ordered the upscaling of tactical intelligence teams to combat kidnapping.
In addition to operational measures, the police are encouraging open communication with affected families to provide support, information, and assistance, acknowledging the psychological impact on the relatives and loved ones of the victims.
Meanwhile, in a proactive move, Egbetokun deployed police officers with guarded security equipment to be stationed on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway to ensure the safety of travellers in response to the rising cases of kidnappings along that route.
