We Didn't Arrest Former CBN Deputy Governor – DSS

The Department of State Services (DSS) has refuted claims circulating on the internet that it arrested former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Aisha Ahmad, News About Nigeria reports.

The agency clarified that it has not arrested any current or former official of the apex bank in the last 48 hours.

The reports alleging Ahmad’s arrest went viral, suggesting that she was apprehended over an alleged fraudulent acquisition of shares in Polaris, Titan Trust, and Union banks.

The DSS, through its official X handle (formerly Twitter), debunked the rumours, stating that there is no truth in the arrest claims.

Meanwhile, Aisha Ahmad herself has addressed the allegations, labelling them as “mischievous and totally untrue.”

In response to an inquiry by TheWill, she denied the arrest and described the circulating story as old and previously debunked.

A close associate of Ahmad said that the recent spread of the false story lacked merit and was entirely untrue.

Furthermore, another source close to the former CBN deputy governor revealed to pressmen that Aisha Ahmad is presently abroad on holiday.

The source dismissed the arrest claims as baseless and reiterated that the reports were misleading and mischievous.

This development comes amid heightened scrutiny of the CBN and some of its former senior officials since the suspension and subsequent arrest of the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele.

Emefiele is currently under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged financial impropriety during his tenure under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
