President Bola Tinubu has extended his heartfelt condolences to former President Goodluck Jonathan on the passing of his sister, Obebhatein Jonathan, fondly known as Amissi.
News About Nigeria gathered that the sympathy was conveyed through an official statement released by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.
Obebhatein Jonathan, a respected teacher, businesswoman, mother, and grandmother, breathed her last on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, after a brief illness at the age of 70.
Described as a devout Christian and a virtuous woman, she was acknowledged as a role model both within and outside her community.
“She was a devout Christian, a virtuous woman and a role model to many within and outside her community,” the statement partly read.
The burial for Obebhatein Jonathan, Amissi, has been scheduled for Tuesday, February 16, 2024, with the family expected to announce the details of the funeral rites.
President Tinubu, in his condolence message, urged former President Jonathan to find solace in the legacy of his late sister, who dedicated her life to the service of God and humanity.
Tinubu extended his prayers for the repose of Amissi’s soul and offered comfort to all those mourning this painful loss.
The former Lagos governor acknowledged the significant impact Amissi had on the lives of many and expressed solidarity with the grieving Jonathan family.
Obebhatein Jonathan is survived by three children, siblings, including Goodluck Jonathan, and her mother, Mama Eunice Afeni-Jonathan.
It’s worth noting that this marks the second bereavement for the Jonathan family, as on January 4, 2015, Goodluck Jonathan lost his younger sister, Nancy Jonathan-Olei, who was buried on Friday, January 23, 2015.
