In a development that adds to the ongoing political unrest in Rivers State, Chidi Amadi, the Chief of Staff to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has tendered his resignation, News About Nigeria reports.
The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joseph Johnson, confirmed Amadi’s departure, adding that Governor Fubara would announce a successor in due course.
“It is the prerogative of the governor to appoint when he wants it. He will tell us and we will announce it and you will also get the release to that effect,” he said.
Amadi, known for his loyalty to ex-governor Nyesom Wike, hails from Obio/Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State.
His resignation brings the total number of Wike’s loyalists leaving Fubara’s administration to ten since the commencement of the political crisis between Fubara and his estranged political godfather, Nyesom Wike.
The resignation follows calls for Fubara to appoint former factional Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Edison Ehie, as the new Chief of Staff.
The Ijaw Youth Council, Worldwide, urged Fubara to consider Ehie for the role in recognition of his support during the plot by 27 lawmakers loyal to Nyesom Wike to impeach Fubara.
The political turmoil in the state further unfolded as Fubara faced pressure to present the 2024 budget for fresh passage.
The Amaewhue-led Assembly, during its recent plenary, called on Fubara to bring forth the budget, stating that the state was being run without one.
However, Governor Fubara has not yet commented on this request, raising concerns about potential future crises in the state.
