Following the suspension of the Minister of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Olumuyiwa Enitan, has taken over the management of the ministry according to President Bola Tinubu’s directive.
News About Nigeria had reported that Tinubu suspended Edu on Monday over her alleged involvement in the payment of N585 million into a private account.
Following her removal, President Tinubu tasked Edu with handing over her position to the permanent secretary.
Speaking on Wednesday about the President’s order, a senior official in the humanitarian ministry revealed that the Permanent Secretary has resumed his duty as the head of the ministry.
According to the senior official, though the president had announced in the media that Enitan should take over the leadership of the ministry, he had to get an official ‘go-ahead’ letter, which is why he officially resumed today (Wednesday).
In his own words, “He (permanent secretary) needed to get the letter of authorisation from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation before assuming duties, despite the announcement in the media.”
Recall that Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, stated on Monday that the President directed the suspended minister to hand over the leadership of the ministry to Enitan.
In a recent development, the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), after several hours of grilling the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation released her on bail.
According to the EFCC, though Edu has been released on bail, she is still required to show up at the anti-graft agency daily pending the investigation of the case.
