President Bola Tinubu has dismissed the Chief Executive Officers of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC, and Bureau of Public Enterprises, BPE, News About Nigeria reports.

The dismissal was disclosed in a statement by the presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, on Monday.

This is coming barely 12 hours after the suspension of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, and is, according to Ngelale, in conjunction with the plans of the President to restructure agencies of the Federal government.

He further stated that the President, through the agencies, aims to protect the rights of Nigerian consumers and also provide a strong basis for enhanced contributions to the nation’s economy by key growth-enabling institutions.

The dismissed officers are Mr. Babatunde Irukera, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO, Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC, and Mr Alexander Ayoola Okoh, Director-General/CEO, Bureau of Public Enterprises.

The dismissed officers have also been ordered by the President to hand over to the next most senior officer in their respective agencies, pending the appointment of new Chief Executive Officers, and it is to be done with immediate effect.

The Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), as a government agency in Nigeria, is responsible for implementing policies on privatisation and commercialisation.

The Bureau implements the Nigerian federal government’s programme of privatising public enterprises, carrying out sector reforms, and liberalising key economic sectors, especially the infrastructure sector.

On the other hand, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC, is a leading authority for competition and consumer protection in Nigeria.

It also promotes fair business practices and safeguards the interests of consumers.
