A group known as the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has tasked the Federal Government (FG) and the nation’s anti-graft agencies to fish out the alleged accomplices of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, and her predecessor, Sadiya Umar-Farouq.
The call was made by the Executive Director of CISLAC, Auwal Rafsanjani, during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.
According to the group, it is impossible for the minister and predecessor to commit the crime alone without the help of others, so the people who worked with them must be brought to book.
Rafsanjani said, “The fraud allegedly perpetrated by both the previous minister, Sadiya, and the current one definitely worked with some people; where are those people? If we want to get to the root of this, we must get them investigated.”
The group also decried the alleged crime perpetrated by Edu and Farouq, noting that it is pathetic as they were ministers leading a ministry that should be sympathetic to the citizens.
The Executive Director of the group also charged President Bola Tinubu to investigate other ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) in the nation, stressing that the alleged diversions of funds weren’t restricted to the humanitarian ministry alone.
He also commended the Tinubu-led administration for its consistent fight against corruption and fraud.
Rafsanjani also noted that the Civil Society Group would not let the matter die, as they would ensure that they got to the root of it.
News About Nigeria had reported that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is probing Edu’s predecessor, Farouq, over the alleged laundering of N37.1 billion during her tenure as a minister under the administration of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari.
