A Tribe Called Judah: Peter Obi Commends Funke Akindele For Record-Breaking Movie

Former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the February 25 presidential election, Peter Obi, has praised Nollywood actress Funke Akindele for her outstanding achievement with the blockbuster film, ‘A Tribe Called Judah’.

News About Nigeria reported that the movie recently broke a box office record, becoming the first Nollywood film to gross over N1 billion within three weeks of its release.

Peter Obi, via his X profile, expressed his appreciation for the movie and its reflection on the challenges faced by less-privileged families in Nigeria.

He tweeted, “It is heartwarming to learn that ‘A Tribe Called Judah’, a movie by Nigerian Movie Producer, @funkeakindele, has achieved a record-breaking earning of N1 billion in just 3 weeks of its release,” describing the feat as a “historic moment in our Nigerian movie industry.”

The former governor acknowledged Nollywood as one of Nigeria’s biggest exports in the past decade and commended Funke Akindele for her passion, hard work, and dedication to the industry.

He also congratulated her for having two previous movies, ‘Battle on Buka Street’ and ‘Omo Ghetto’, as the second and third highest-grossing films at the Nigerian box office, respectively.

While lauding the success of ‘A Tribe Called Judah’, Peter Obi pointed out its portrayal of the complex challenges faced by less-privileged families in Nigeria.

In conclusion, he urged Nollywood to continue telling stories that inspire hard work, integrity, and productivity among Nigerians, stating that this would play a significant role in building the ‘New Nigeria’.

‘A Tribe Called Judah’ has been breaking records since its release on December 15, 2023, and has become the highest-grossing Nigerian movie of all time, surpassing Akindele’s previous films.

The film, directed by Adeoluwa Owu (Captain Degzy), features a star-studded cast, including Nse Ikpe Etim, Timini Egbuson, Ebelle Okaro, Uzor Arukwe, Genoveva Umeh, Nosa Rex, and others.
