Fuji musician based in Ibadan, Taye Adebisi, popularly known as Taye Currency, has recounted the story of how the late former governor of Oyo State, Christopher Alao-Akala, financially liberated him by paying him N99 million for his governorship campaign in 2011, News About Nigeria reports.
The revelation came during an event marking the annual Oshodi Day, where Taye Currency performed as one of the guest artistes on December 27, 2023.
Speaking at the event, Taye Currency said he challenged Akala about delayed payments meant for his performances during campaign rallies.
The musician revealed that his confrontation with Akala occurred at the governor’s residence in Ogbomoso, where he expressed how dissatisfied he was with the delayed payments by the show promoter responsible for settling him.
According to Taye Currency, Akala, surprised by the revelation, immediately took charge of the situation.
The former governor instructed his First Lady, Mrs. Kemi Alao Akala, to ensure prompt payment for Taye Currency’s performances throughout the campaign.
To further show how committed he was, Akala ordered the immediate payment of N99 million to the Fuji musician for his contributions to campaign events across the 33 local government areas of the state.
Recounting the life-changing event, Taye Currency exclaimed, “That was how I made it. Just like that, I was shocked. After I settled everyone, I still had N60 million left.”
Taye Currency, now appointed as the Culture Ambassador in the first term of Governor Seyi Makinde, has become a prominent figure in Oyo State politics, with his son, Yusuf Adebisi, securing a seat in the Oyo State House of Assembly.
The musician is referred to as ‘Baba Honourable’ due to his son’s political achievements.
