Eleven passengers have reportedly lost their lives, while seven others sustained injuries from a road accident that took place at Ayere along Bode Sadu in the Moro local government area of Kwara state on Tuesday, News About Nigeria reports.
The incident was confirmed by the Kwara State Sector Commander of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC), Stephen Dawulung, on Tuesday, stating that the crash involved a DAF truck and a Toyota Hiace Bus.
According to him, from preliminary investigations that were carried out, the Toyota Hiace bus which was coming from Gombe en route to Lagos, wrongfully overtook another vehicle, resulting in a head-on collision with an oncoming DAF truck in the early hours of Tuesday.
He said that a total of 18 people were involved in the ghastly accident, adding that the seven victims who survived the accident have been taken to Ifeoluwa Hospital, Bode Saadu, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Dawulung also stated that his men had responded immediately to the spot of the accident and began the task of rescuing the victims, in conjunction with officers of the Nigeria Police Command stationed at Bode Saadu for end-of-year traffic and security control operations.
He, however, appealed to drivers to always stick to the rules of traffic and also drive within the stipulated speed limits, avoid night journeys, and long hours of driving without adequate rest, which can result in fatigue, lack of alertness, poor visibility, and poor judgement, as these constitute high-risk factors that result in crashes with high fatalities.
