The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has assured the residents of Plateau State that reinforcement will arrive in the state soon and there is no need for the people to fear, News About Nigeria reports.
The Army Chief disclosed this while speaking on Channels Television on Sunday night, noting that the security agents that have been deployed to the state will arrive on Monday.
He noted that the security agents will tackle the insecurity that has been ravaging the state and ensure that peace is restored in the state.
Lagbaja added that the troops are also coming with equipment that will make their job easier and more efficient.
He assured the people that the troops were on their way and should land in the state soon to help restore calm.
Recall that terrorists on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2023, attacked over 20 communities in the state and killed over 100 people.
Lagbaja, however, refuted claims that there have been fresh attacks in the state, describing it as a report aimed at instilling fear in the people.
According to him, nothing of such was reported to him when he visited, adding that troops have received false alarms and so many other reports that are not true.
“I just came back from Plateau, I did not get the report of a renewed attack from anywhere,” he said.
He also expressed his disapproval of the bearing of arms by the citizens, maintaining that it is a call for anarchy and breeds a lawless state.
