FG Did Not Fulfill Its Promises In 2023, NLC Says

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has lamented that the Federal Government did not keep to the promises it made to the Congress in 2023, News About Nigeria reports.

The NLC President, Joe Ajaero, made this known in a New Year message he signed on Sunday and tagged, “2024 can be better if…”

In the statement, he said that the government was unfaithful in keeping to the agreements it made with Congress.

He noted that most of the agreements made by the federal government, including the agreement to pay the N35,000 wage award, the Port Harcourt refinery the government projected will come on stream, and the inauguration of the National Minimum Wage Negotiation Council, among others, have not been implemented by the federal government.

Ajaero maintained that the nation has become more divided than ever, with growing suspicion and increasing trust deficits along those lines, adding that this is a result of the divisions in the country and the unfortunate activities of politicians who played the citizens up in their bid to win elections.

He further noted that the confidence the people have in the government has taken a hit, which has further caused a widening chasm between the people and the government as the government continues with policies that negate the welfare of citizens.

Ajaero maintained that in 2023, there was increased use of violence and unrivalled propaganda as tools of engagement in the nation’s industrial relations sphere, stating that the government has tried to thwart citizens’ efforts at holding the government accountable.

He, however, stated that 2024 will be a year when all that has been taken away from workers will be restored.
