Ondo Lawmakers Pass Vote Of No Confidence On Speaker For Endorsing Aiyedatiwa

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has called on politicians in the state to shun every act of governance and focus on presenting a noteworthy contest of ideas in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state, News About Nigeria reports.

The governor gave this warning while speaking in his New Year broadcast in the state on Monday, stating that anything that will threaten the peace and tranquillity of the state should be done away with.

He noted that, as a result of the governorship election slated to be held later in the year, political activities will gain prominence in the state.

He, however, urged all political parties, aspirants, and their followers to shun acts of violence and rather ensure that they follow the guidelines that have been issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and follow them to the core, adding that no act of violence will be tolerated.

He maintained that the election should be a contest of ideas and choices, not an opportunity to settle political scores or an excuse for calumny.

While speaking on the crisis that has rocked the state for the past few months, the governor maintained that the challenges have shaped the resolve of both the government and people to, more than ever before, unite the people of the state and pursue the attainment of a peaceful and prosperous Ondo State.

“It is time to put the past behind us and focus all our human and material resources on building on the foundation that this administration has so far laid,” he said.

Aiyedatiwa also called on the people of the state to intensify prayers for the peace and prosperity of the state.
