The Federal Government has revealed that it will implement a new minimum wage in 2024, stating that it has the interests of the workers at heart, News About Nigeria reports.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu disclosed this while speaking in a New Year message to Nigerians on Monday, adding that industrious workers will reap the fruit of their labour in 2024.
He noted that the decision of his government to implement the new minimum wage was not just because it made good economic sense, but because it was the right thing to do both morally and politically.
President Bola Tinubu also assured Nigerians that his government will not neglect the economic aspirations and desires, including the material well-being of the poor people in the country, the most vulnerable people, and the workers in the country.
According to him, in a bid to impact the lives of the citizens, the government will hit the ground running with the plans for the implementation of the new minimum wage, stressing that the earlier they start, the better it is for everyone.
He further disclosed that the groundwork for the economic recovery plans of his government has been laid within the last seven months of 2023, and he, therefore, expressed his readiness to accelerate the pace of service delivery across sectors.
The President further maintained that his government will fight any and every obstacle that will attempt to impede business competitiveness, adding that he will not hesitate to remove any clog on the path to making Nigeria a destination of choice for local and foreign investments.
