The Nigerian Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA) has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to pay their members the arrears of their eight months’ salary that have been withheld, News About Nigeria reports.
The association made this call in a communiqué that was jointly signed by the National President, Dr. Nosa Lancy Orhue, the National Welfare Secretary, Dr. Shehu Abdurrhaman and the National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Jibril Abdulahi, who signed for the secretary-general, Dr Zakari Suleiman.
It was stated that there was no reason for the salaries of their members to be held as they were not on strike during the industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.
They maintained that members of the association had not been involved in the withdrawal of service and cancellation of classes, and in some cases, they conducted examinations and graduated students.
According to the association, this action of the federal government was in the negation of the decision of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria’s judgment on the ‘No work No pay’.
It noted that the Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Uyo, and University of Ilorin, among others, were some of the institutions that were yet to be paid the arrears of their eight months salaries and urged the president to look into it and do the needful.
The association also applauded the federal government for its move to accept its members into the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) payment system, stating that it was a move in the right direction.
