The wife of Late Rotimi Akeredolu, the former Governor of Ondo State, Betty Anyanwu Akeredolu, has revealed that she is older than her husband.
While revealing how she met her husband, who is popularly known as Aketi, the former Ondo first lady said that she is three years older than her husband as he was 22 years old while she was 25 when they met.
In her farewell message to Akeredolu, Betty disclosed that they both met as Corps members when they were deployed for their one-year compulsory service in Enugu state.
She further explained that she met Late Aketi 37 years ago through a mutual friend who came to visit her, and they both fell in love at first sight.
In her own words, “I met my husband in Enugu; he was a youth corper then in Enugu. I was also posted to Enugu. So a friend of mine visited me and she came along with her boyfriend who also came along with my husband. That was how we met, and it was love at first sight. I think people frown at love at first sight, but it worked for us.”
Betty also stated that one of the things that compelled her love for her late husband was his broad shoulders and the fact that he was and is still a very cute man.
She also noted that their love endured because her family expected her as a graduate to marry an ‘already made man’ but she had to stick with the love they both shared even when her late husband was younger and was still trying to put things in place as a corps member.
Betty also added that she was able to stick with her husband because she understood that it was better to build a home from scratch with her love.
News About Nigeria recalls that the Ondo State Governor died on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, after battling with prostate cancer.
Akeredolu, who gave up the ghost in Germany, was a one-time President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
