Guard Corps To Support Sokoto Police - Gov Aliyu

The Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu, has stated that the newly inaugurated Community Guard Corps will act as a support to the State Police, News About Nigeria reports.

The governor disclosed this while signing the bill into law on Thursday at the Government House Chamber.

The governor noted that this was an important milestone in his government and maintained that the corps is not a state police or rival police.

He noted that the state was facing serious and recurring security challenges, especially that of banditry, which has altered and destabilised the peaceful nature that the state is known for.

He said his administration came up with the idea of the Sokoto Community Guard Corps in order to provide support for the efforts of the President Bola Tinubu-led administration in providing adequate security for the populace.

Aliyu further assured the people that the government will do everything humanly possible to maintain peace and security in the state, maintaining that the community guards will supplement the efforts of conventional security outfits to protect the lives and properties of the people, especially at the grassroots.

He also charged security agencies in the state to give their full support to the community guards and partner with them to ensure that the state is rid of insecurity and the people are able to move about their daily lives without fear.

Addressing the community guards, he urged them to also assist the state police in any way they can including providing the state police with vital information from their various localities that will help in apprehending criminals and bandits.
