The residents of Imo State have been shocked by the actions of a girl identified as Amanda Uchechi Ugo, who shot and killed a policeman at the Ezinihitte Area Command on Tuesday in Imo State, News About Nigeria reports.
According to reports, the policeman, who was identified as Cosmas Ugwu, was attached to the Imo State Police Command and was shot by his 23-year-old lover three times.
A source who pleaded anonymity revealed that the unfortunate incident happened around 6:30 p.m. on Boxing Day.
He said that the officers who were on duty at the station heard the sounds of gunshots from the room occupied by the deceased and his girlfriend.
According to the source, when the police officers ran into the room to see what was going on, they found Corporal Ugwu lying in a pool of blood, noting that the girlfriend had shot the officer three times on his chest and his left hand.
The victim was rushed to the Evergreen Hospital in Ezinihitte, and all efforts to resuscitate him proved abortive as he was pronounced dead by the doctor on duty.
It was gathered that the deceased had a serious fight with his girlfriend, which escalated, and in the course of the altercation, the girl reached for his rifle, pulled the trigger, and shot him three times.
How the girlfriend was able to operate the rifle still remains a surprise to many; however, speculations are that the deceased taught his girlfriend how to use it.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Imo State, Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect has been arrested and investigations into the incident have commenced.
