The Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has expressed deep sorrow over the reported demise of the Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, News About Nigeria reports.
While the Ondo State government is yet to officially confirm the news, sources have indicated that Governor Akeredolu passed away on Wednesday at the age of 67.
Governor AbdulRazaq, who also serves as the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, conveyed his condolences in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Rafiu Ajakaye.
The Kwara State Governor described Akeredolu as an ‘exceptional statesman who made indelible marks in public service’.
The statement read, “My heartfelt condolences go to the Progressives Governors’ Forum, the government and people of Ondo State, the Nigerian Bar Association, and the immediate family of my dear brother and colleague His Excellency Olurotimi Akeredolu SAN.”
Governor AbdulRazaq praised Akeredolu as a prominent lawyer and dedicated politician with a progressive outlook.
He pointed out the late Governor’s courage, patriotism, and significant contributions to Nigeria’s constitutional and sociopolitical development.
“As painful as his exit is to all of us, we take solace in his fine legacies as a gentleman and statesman. We ask God to repose his soul and look after his family,” the statement concluded.
While awaiting an official statement from the Ondo State government, the reported passing of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu marks a big loss in Nigerian politics, and leaders across the nation are expressing their condolences and remembering the late Governor’s contributions to public service.
The late governor succumbed to death after a long time of battling leukaemia, a cancer of the blood.
His death was disclosed by a reliable source, who stated that the governor had died in Lagos.
The source said that the State House medical team, which managed and looked after the late governor up until his last breath, had been looking for dialysis machines to be sent to his secret location in Lagos last week as he could no longer be flown abroad.
