President of the 9th Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan, has expressed sadness over the demise of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state, and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ghali Umar Na’Abba, News About Nigeria reports.
Lawan expressed grief over the recent events in a statement issued by his media adviser, Dr. Ezrel Tabiowo, on Wednesday, stating that the deaths of both leaders were a big blow to both the political and governance landscapes of the nation.
He noted that Governor Akeredolu was a true son of Ondo State, describing the late governor as a visionary leader who was committed to the cause and dedicated his life to serving the people of Ondo State.
He stated that the result of the unwavering commitment the late governor had to ensure the state was peaceful and progressed daily is evident in the numerous projects the governor was able to achieve before his demise, including the infrastructural development projects, economic initiatives, and agricultural reforms he implemented during his tenure.
Lawan maintained that the leadership and legacy of the late governor will continue to live on and will be a source of inspiration for generations to come.
Speaking about the former speaker, Na’Abba, Lawan noted that he was a respected statesman and a strong advocate for democracy, who served as the Speaker of the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2003.
He stated that the late speaker stood against corruption and dedicated his life to the rule of law, adding that Na’Abba had given his all to ensure that he contributed to shaping the nation’s democratic governance.
