Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have apprehended eight suspects over the death of the traditional ruler of the Adani autonomous community in the Uzo Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, Igwe Ezugwu Patrick, News About Nigeria reports.
The police command, through its spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, a deputy superintendent of police, confirmed the arrest, stating that the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, is on top of the matter and will ensure that justice is meted out to the culprits.
The commissioner, who had paid a visit to the community, stated that he had been drafted by the governor, Peter Mbah, to ensure that all those responsible for the unfortunate incident are apprehended in line with the state’s zero tolerance for crime and face the wrath of the law.
According to him, upon getting the news, he had dispatched men from the Criminal Investigation Department and the Area Command, led by the Area Commander, adding that his team was in full control of the situation and there would be severe consequences for the baseless murder of the monarch.
It was gathered that the killing had happened at about 9 pm on Sunday by armed hoodlums suspected to be assassins.
While commending the swiftness of the police in responding to the call, the President-General of the community, Chief S. N. Utazi, appealed to them to be thorough in their investigations and ensure that everyone involved in the murder of the monarch is brought to justice.
Utazi further lamented that nobody in the community had anticipated such a heinous crime as the community had been at peace in the recent past.
