64th Independence: Prioritise Mutual Understanding, Respect – CAN Tells Nigerians

Following the Christmas Day attack that happened in Plateau State, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has condemned the attack by gunmen that led to the deaths of 96 people, News About Nigeria reports.

It can be recalled that the killings happened at the NTV community, which is near Bokkos Local Government Area of the state, in the early hours of Monday.

Confirming the incident, the state’s police command revealed that 96 people were killed in the attack while 221 houses were burned down.

Reacting to the incident in a statement, the President of CAN, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, condemned the attack, saying that the burning down of houses and worship centres, which led to the destruction of properties worth millions of Naira, is an assault on the peace and unity of the people of Plateau State.

Okoh also sympathised with the state government and the families of the deceased, praying for the repose of their souls.

He also encouraged them that the Christian body is firmly with them in this critical time and would partner with the Plateau state government to cater to victims.

The CAN President also commended the state governor, Caleb Mutfwang, and the Nigerian military for their swift intervention.

He therefore called on the governor and the military to build the state’s security system in order to prevent any such attacks in the future.

Okoh then charged Nigerians to remember the bereaved families in their prayers and to also give them the support they need to get through the recent tragedy.
