Drunk Driver Loses Control, Slams Into Lagos Road

A yet-to-be-identified man has been hospitalised after he lost control and slammed into a barricade at CMS inward outer Marina, Lagos State, on Monday, News About Nigeria reports.

The Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Adebayo Taofiq, revealed that the driver had been drunk and was at a high speed when he lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the barricade.

According to him, the driver of a Volkswagen Space bus with the number plate AAW56AA crashed at high speed into the road median.

He further disclosed that the driver, who was drunk while overspeeding on the highway, caused the collision that damaged the roadside barricade at CMS.

He stated that officers of the Traffic Agency, LASTMA, had rescued the trapped car from the barricade while police officers from the Lion Building supplied security assistance, adding that all these were done in a bid to allow for unrestricted vehicular traffic inside the marina.

Taofiq further noted that the Lastma personnel working around the CMS outer Marina had immediately rushed to the accident scene and were in time to rescue the driver, who was later rushed to ‘Odan’ General Hospital for medical treatment.

The acting general manager of LASTMA, Bakare Oki, who paid a visit to the accident scene on a monitoring tour with the agency’s top management, urged those driving to ensure they adhere to all traffic laws and refrain from drinking and driving to avoid getting involved in accidents and safeguard everyone’s safety.

He maintained that the laws were put in place for a reason; therefore, all road users should stick to them.
