The Sokoto State Police Command has assured residents of the state of adequate security measures to safeguard lives and property during the yuletide season, News About Nigeria reports.

In a statement released on Friday, the command said that it would deploy both human and material resources across the state to ensure a secure environment.

As part of the security measures, the command has implemented a ban on the use of knockouts, fireworks, and firecrackers that could potentially cause panic or apprehension in the public.

The ban is aimed at maintaining peace and order during the festive period.

According to ASP Ahmed Rufai, the spokesman for the Sokoto State Police Command, there will be heightened police visibility at various places of worship and event centers.

Additionally, the command will conduct raids on identified black spots, uncompleted buildings, and huts.

The raids, which include stop-and-search operations, vehicular and foot patrols, and inter-agency cooperation, are designed to ensure that residents enjoy a hitch-free festivity before, during, and after the Christmas celebration.

The Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State, CP Ali Hayatu Kaigama, extended felicitations to the Christian faithful in the state in anticipation of the festive season.

He urged residents to avoid using items such as knockouts, fireworks, and firecrackers that could cause panic, emphasizing his commitment to ensuring the safety of all.

CP Kaigama also called on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.

He encouraged the use of the Police emergency lines for distress calls and complaints, adding that the community’s cooperation is important in maintaining a secure and peaceful environment.
