FG Begins Disbursement Of N-Power Arrears

The Federal Government has revealed that it has commenced with the disbursement of arrears from the N-Power programme, now known as the Renewed Hope Job Creation Programme (RHJCP), News About Nigeria reports.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, disclosed this in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday.

According to her, the payment for the arrears is currently ongoing.

She stated that she and her team have been putting in long hours at work just to ensure that all those who were owed by the last government get their pay.

She noted that those who participated in the N-Power programme will be able to attest to the fact that they have been receiving their pay, adding that her team will not relent until the last person who indeed has served and is owed has been paid.

She also disclosed that the programme is undergoing a restructuring to ensure that the rate of unemployment in the country is reduced and jobs are created for Nigerians.

The N-Power scheme, which was introduced by President Muhammadu Buhari on June 8, 2016, to address the issues of youth unemployment and help increase social development, was halted temporarily after President Bola Tinubu took over the seat.

Edu, however, noted that President Bola Tinubu was committed to clearing all backlogs from the previous administration before he continued with the programme.

“The Renewed Hope N-Power has not been relaunched yet. We are still trying to deal with the baggage from previous years. So, these are persons who were owed monies for a few months,” she said.
