Olukayode Egbetokun, the Inspector General of Police (IG), has directed Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders to ensure that there is a sufficient amount of personnel and resources available nationwide over the holiday season.
News About Nigeria gathered that the deployment aims to ensure the safety of citizens, including those visiting recreational and picnic centers for Christmas and New Year festivities.
The directive was shared by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Thursday.
Adejobi said that the IG noted the need to protect fun seekers during the festive celebrations.
Adejobi said, “In the spirit of the season, the IG has ordered all Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders to deploy adequate personnel and resources throughout the length and breadth of the country including recreational and picnic centres to protect fun seekers who are out for the festive celebrations.”
The deployment will involve various police units, including the Police Mobile Force, Border Patrol Force, and Safer Highway.
The IG gave the instructions during meetings with Tactical Commanders, stressing the importance of ensuring public safety and maintaining security in areas where people gather for leisure and celebration.
Additionally, the Police will host a Christmas Carol and Service of 9 Lessons on Friday, December 22, 2023, at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
Dignitaries expected to attend include the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio; Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Geidam; Chairman Police Service Commission, Dr. Solomon Arase; and Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Christopher Musa, among others.
